Cheyenne Air Conditioning and Heating Poudre Valley Air shares some remedies to help reduce your allergies, related to food.

I am sure you have heard of food allergies. Among the worst for most people are eggs, milk, wheat, and peanuts.  In spite of this some foods can alleviate symptoms from airborne allergies.

When you experience sneezing or a runny nose again try some of these dietary selections to help with your breathing:

  • Consume foods high in zinc to help feed antibacterial and antiviral effects. Shrimp and oysters are foods high in zinc.  Also, try a serving of whole grains and beans.
  • Nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts, and peanuts add a great tasting touch to your dishes while also helping minimize inflammation due to Vitamin E.
  • Spicy foods are great with helping clear your sinuses. Try consuming hot salsa, green chilies, or perhaps a dash of cayenne pepper
  • Fruits with large amounts of Vitamin C are edible antihistamines and antioxidants. Start including two pieces of Vitamin C enriched fruit into your daily diet. You may be surprised at how much this will help with your congestion.
  • Black tea contains an antioxidant within its flavenoids that will help relieve your immune system. Green tea is also a great source of antioxidants and can reduce the production of histamine.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids have “anti-inflammatory” properties. Such substance can be found in cold-water fish (such as wild salmon, mackerel, trout, herring and sardines), walnuts, or flaxseed. We suggest increasing your servings of fish year-round, bumping up your intake during allergy season. Also, start eating 12 walnuts and a teaspoon of ground flaxseed daily.

This list is just a sample of some foods that can help your allergy symptoms.  In spite of this there are foods items you will want to avoid.  Milk is one of these products because they can cause a thickening of mucus in the nasal cavities. When you eat yogurt, slice of cheese, or drink a glass of milk this can cause you to feel more congested. In addition, sodas with caffeine and alcoholic drinks cause your body to be dehydrated and make your symptoms worse.  Instead you should increase your water intake to eight glasses of water per day.
